It came with 2 triple mag pouches, however I was wondering if this would be a typical load, or if more mags would be carried? I have some double mag pouches on the way I would be able to add on. Side note, the FLC is configured as a chest rig, came with a few surprises, a. Posted 04 September - AM I was just issued mine and that is the standard rifleman set, yes it is correct.

Posted 04 September - AM Perfect, thank you. That being said, when I was in Iraq, I personally carried a mag in my weapon, a mag in a butt-stock pouch, six more in my Load Bearing Vest we had not received any of the FLC yetand six more magazines in 2- LC-2 Ammo Pouches which were still standard Issue, even though we had been issued the Load Bearing Vests. In the vehicles, we carried further ammunition still packed in the cans. I'm not familiar with the FLC Total of three-two mag M-4 mag pouches, one double mag pouch for the M9, 9mm pistol, Bianchi M holster for the M9, first aid pouch, miscellaneous pouch, and two canteens.

Hope this helps. Wayne Attached Images. The other special purpose pouches M9, M, M, medical, etc are issued be the unit supply room or arms room as needed. But, since the entire MOLLE system is modular, once deployed down range there is no such thing as a "standard" configuration since soldiers will change it around to suite their needs and situation. The chest rig configuration is a popular way to configure the FLC, as it makes it much easier to wear over body armor. Before we all get too worked up, Please understand what I am asking. It seems that the majority of comments reference the quality, others reference the concept, but that seems to be from those that have something better and I agree there is better or the concept does not fully fit their need. For a modular rig concept that allows you to run a belt order, a vest or a chest rig with the one set of gear; it would appear that this would be a worthwhile assembly.

For our Army it is frowned upon usinglets say, unorthodox gear arrangments, this system seems to be a way to look the same but be able to adjust when the time comes to stop gyning around. Anyway, my thoughts, I would like to hear what the consensus is.

Original Post. C Chris Black Ops. The FLC is a strong, flexible design with a lot of advantages that cross the line between a conventional loadbearing vest and chest rig. The problem with the FLC as currently fielded is that it doesn't quite meet it's potential designwise. At it's best, the FLC has the large forward surface mounting area that is the desireable feature in a chest rig. It also has a full belt capacity with only one break front.

The ability to adjust for width along the sides while not compromising PALS space is very clever. Other commercial designs sacrifice mounting space with adjusters on the sides of the rig or, in the case of chest rigs, do not have the capacity to mount additional equipment once you exceed the capacity of the available mounting space.

With the FLC, you can continue to mount around your waist, or leave it open. Another desireable feature is that it opens along the front and can be donned and secured more easily than a chest rig.

Where it falters is the split down the center, which interrupts available forward mounting space. This was especially bad with the older models that featured side release buckles, the newer zip up versions are more versatile and waste less space. The height adjusters along the back are smartly designed and do a good job at distributing weight. The shoulder straps are poorly designed and tend to bunch up, not offering much support and cannot be adjusted for width.

I've been modifying my FLC for some time now and would not trade it for any commercially available rig on the market for field work. SDS makes an improved, commercial version of the FLC that features improvements over the issued varient.

Those used for mass issue, are of course not as durable as aftermarket, custom sewn gear, but with some strategic reinforcing of seams, stress points and PALS webbing, it should take a good beating and continue to serve you well.

Stephen Q Moderator. Well said Chris!

DS Doc Ski Yay! I get to use the Swap meet! I have to agree with what Chris said about the FLC. The concept behind it is good, but they need to maximize its' full potential for the issue version.

I mounted my pouches on my flak, didn't get hung up. Chris, Stephen, Doc Thanks for your comments especially you chris for your detailed comment. What you have said and agrred is pretty much what I was thinking as well. Has anyone set the rig up and used it as a chest rig without the back molle pad? If this could be done it should solve the problem for those wanting to be able to mount across the entire front of the rig, I would imagine that the zip in the Molle 2 would take up the space of 1 channel.Post by whisk.

Quick links. Other provisions not covered above that may make survival easier if your life is tossed out of the norm. This section is for discussing everything from arc welders to underwear. For all about 4 months of the year, I can carry everything I need for camping on a belt and shoulder harness.

Works well. However, in the cold months, I really need a pack to carry more shelter items, including a sleeping bag, Problem is, now that I use a Kifaru Zulu, the harness system doesn't work with it unless I use the pack without the hip belt -- which defeats half the reason I went with the bag. Which leaves my with getting a chest rig if I want to "line" my gear.

Also, are the old ones with the two Fastex buckles better: Or the new ones with the zipper is the zipper prone to going tits up? Unlike you I was just looking for San Diego 4 season hiking gear. It seemed like with the FLC I was still resorting to a butt pack of some kind for most of the kit I was wanting to take and the vest just offered the ability to differently compartmentalize some of my little gear.

Maybe im just ignorant when it comes to how to properly utilize this stuff, but it doesn't seem like the FLC has any true utility on its own its just something you wear with a ruck If it sucks, you'll be spending more money on pouches than on the vest and the pouches are transferable to other vests.

Other pocket gets 20 Katadyn MP1 tablets, and a few individual teas bags. If I ever need to carry the Zulu and a fighting load, I'm using the Hellcat. I just got done making a hot climate woods-walking rig based on a FLC.

Well, it could use just one more pouch. It's woodycam, very retro, tres chic. I can post pics if anyone is interested. Orville Wright did not have a pilot's license. I was just looking at these today as a cheap backup or loaner rig.

This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence - Vyvyan. I think it's one size bigger then it needed to be, so it flopped around a little bit. I've considered getting an extra set of pouches for it, so it is ready at a moments notice, but other things have taken priority.

Let me know if you'd like any pictures of it. Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

My rucksack weighs about 90 lbs on a mission, I have to carry that, plus my rifle and fighting gear on my FLC 6 mags, one in the rifle, camelback, canteens, compass, FAK, commo wire, small survival kit.

I wear my FLC as high as it can be worn, so its almost like a chest rig, but it is not, and the way the weight is dispersed is not optimal for carrying lots of weight on your back. The chest rig helps keep me a lot more balanced while I'm humping that stuff through the woods.Picture hosting, Exclusive club forum, Premium recognition, and more website access are only a click away! Anyone still use a vest instead of a chest rig?

I searched but my google-foo sucks today. Didn't find quite what I was looking for, especially anything very recent.

Of course maybe I had too much shit. Chest rigs seem to be the big craze these days, but does anyone out there still prefer a vest setup? I know the vest and chest rig have their own strengths depending on mission but for a cheap-skate that can't afford numerous setups, I have to find one. I'm shopping about but almost feel ashamed at not considering a chest rig.

Yeah, it's been discussed here before I'm sure but I'm bored at work and need something new to read. How about some new opinions or observations from recent deployments. What were you doing, what did you prefer, what would you do differently next time? If you have a different opinion, by all means fire away. TT MAV for example. Original Post. FM Former Member.

I ran a Spartan II last time, and will next time. For me it's just one less thing to have to throw on when the shitpot gets stirred in a hurry. Although, I have given thought to reducing my vest load to a bare minimum and using some kind of rig in conjunction.

The idea being that I could go semi-slick in a turret, but could still roll with just my vest as on option as well. Either way, I don't see the need for a full on chest rig for my situation. Dirt McGirt Megaforce.

I am strong, fit, and love training. Lighteneing the load doesn't help much. The best thing you can do is be honest with yourself regarding your needs, and realize that the resale market for tac gear is hot. You really don't stand to lose much when experimenting. I am not deployed, but have friends and customers that are. The happiest are those that were willing to try new things, while staying true to themselves. I get to use the Swap meet!
